The World is Ending, But No One’s Listening: Don’t Look Up Review
Don’t Look Up is a sharp, funny take on how people deal with big global problems, like climate change. It follows two astronomers who discover a comet that’s about to hit Earth, but when they try to warn everyone, they face denial, distraction, and media spin. The comet stands in for the real-world threat of climate change, while the movie points out how misinformation and apathy prevent meaningful action.
Denial and Misinformation: The Real Threat
The film highlights how society often ignores scientific evidence when it doesn’t fit with political agendas, personal convenience, or popular beliefs. The two astronomers in the movie, represent scientists in real life, trying desperately to warn the world about the impending comet. However, they are dismissed, mocked, and even silenced by media figures, politicians, and the general public who refuse to accept the severity of the threat by literally not looking up.
The movie also critiques how the media prioritizes entertainment over facts, trivializing important issues in favor of sensationalism. The “Don’t Look Up” slogan in the film symbolizes how easy it is to get people to ignore uncomfortable truths, just as climate change denial campaigns use misinformation to cast doubt on well-established science. (Sounds familiar?)

What Makes This Movie Stand Out
As someone who enjoys conspiracy theories for how they exercise the imagination and keep the mind open, this movie also served as a reminder of the fine line between questioning reality and veering into the ridiculous. It’s crucial to keep an open mind but also to know when to recognize what’s plausible and what’s outright denial of facts. Don’t Look Up does an excellent job of showing the dangers of ignoring the real issues at hand, and for that, it feels both timely and impactful.![]() |

In conclusion
“Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the better even of their blunders.” This is a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche. It seems to have the same meaning as “Ignorance is bliss.”
